There is no greater time than childhood – a time when your job is to truly be a kid – having fun with friends, running around freely outside and letting your imagination take you on wild journeys near and far are all in a day’s work for a child. Until, that is, cancer brings that childhood to a screeching halt. Suddenly, afternoon bike rides are replaced with countless doctor appointments and classrooms are replaced with hospital rooms. Thousands of children are diagnosed with cancer every year, forcing them to miss out on simple childhood joys.
That’s where the Pablove Foundation comes in. Named after Pablo Castelaz, who at 6 years old lost his battle with cancer this past June, the Pablove Foundation gives money to improve the lives of children with cancer. Pablo’s individual fight with cancer ended but his parents, Jo Ann Thrailkill and Jeff Castelaz, “fight on in his name, with the spirit of love that Pablo embodied and inspired” with this wonderful organization.
In the months Pablo’s family spent around the hospital, a fire flared up in their hearts. Just as important to kids with cancer as their medical treatment is an outlet for fun and recreation while spending weeks at a time getting chemo and various other treatments. The Pablove Foundation supports hospital play activities, music and arts programs. A strolling minstrel, a board game, a book, or an art easel brings such joy to the heart of a child whose life has been temporarily reduced to a small hospital room.
