A Mom’s Real-Time Journey Starting a New Business

It’s 6:00 am. As I stare at the alarm clock, I convince myself to get out of bed, get dressed, and happily go to work like I do every other day. But, as I step out of the shower, I realize that today is different. I said to myself, “I don’t want to go to work. I want to stay home and follow my own heart’s passion." This isn’t a new mindset; it’s a concept that has been growing within me, ready to burst at life’s first opportunity.

I’m a mother to an 11 yr old daughter, wife and friend. I currently work full time as a Project Manager at an Aerospace Defense company. As a young mom, in terms of quality time, I missed much of my daughter’s life finishing high school, then obtaining my bachelor and master degrees all while working full time. I didn’t truly experience my daughter growing up. Now, as my husband and I work at expanding our family, I realize that I want to be 100% there for our children. I also realize that I’m not truly fulfilled in my career. I recognize this unfulfilled state as I see that I’m not following my own entrepreneurial passion.

I’m an entrepreneur at heart. As a kid, I embarked upon all types of entrepreneurial ventures. But, as I grew into adulthood and took on the lifestyle of a career woman, I became settled. It’s not until hubby and I started discussing more children that my comfort level of being a career woman was shaken. I have a great job, received awards and am recognized as a talented employee. The catch, however, is that I’m committed to my company’s ambitions and my manager’s schedule. I can’t look into my children’s eyes when I want to, mother their wounds when they fall during the day or travel to where I choose at a whim. This is where being a Mompreneur entices me more than anything!

Until now, I’ve been terrified to jump into business ownership. Let’s face it, it’s intimidating, takes lots of hard work, and requires us to step outside of our comfort zone. But, as I look forward to growing our family and found a business idea that I’m passionate about, I’m excited to express my courage to be a Mompreneur.

Stay tuned as I share with you my real-time journey along my personal business adventure.

FANTASTIC! Congratulations on pursuing your passions! As an entrepreneur for the past 16+ years, I can GUARANTEE that you've made the right decision! Working for yourself will be the best thing you've ever done! And, you're absolutely right when you say it'll allow you to be there for your children! With all you've already accomplished in life, you definitely have what it takes to be a successful entrepreneur! I'm really excited for you! Best of luck!

Thanks Mary for the encouragement! One of the hardest things to do is to take that first step in faith.

Thanks LeNesha! I look forward to following your journey! Best of luck :-)

Reading your post was like reading something I recently wrote on my blog. I look forward to reading your journey as I embark on my own similar journey of mompretreneurship. Good luck to you!

Thank you. I found your article to be incredibly inspiring. As a career woman myself, a mother to a five month-old daughter, and a wife with some old-fashioned beliefs, I have had quite a struggle taking the leap myself. I own an event planning business, doing what I ABSOLUTLY LOVE but at times still find myself yearning for the security of a corporate career. And though my husband expresses that he wants me to pursue my entrepreneurial dream, at times I feel that he would rather have me working a traditional job that would relive him of some of our financial stress. It's tough. But for our sake and our family's sake we have to believe in ourselves and endure the temporary bumps ahead that this transitional period may bring.

I wish I knew about your product when I was pregnant! I probably would have bought from you because I used the Bella Band and don't know what I would have done without this type of products. And I recommend it to many of my friends, I think next time I will drop the TummyTankz name instead. :) Also, I don't know about your product but with Bella Bands I had just one little issue. I wish the inside of the bottom seam would have been a little grippier. The band did a great job covering things up and holding my unbuttoned (pregnant belly) pants up, but it would also often slide up when I would get up, exposing my back. Embarrassing at times. One last thing, thank you for offering bigger sizes. I had a hard time finding my size when I was pregnant. Next time I know where to go. :)
