I worked in live news for the local CBS affiliate for about ten years. I started right out of high school on the production crew for the morning show. Having to be at work at 4:30am in the morning was quite dreadful, and it became more dreadful when I worked my way into a master control operator position. This position started at 1:30am in the morning. Eventually I climbed the ladder, reaching my goal as director. I directed the weekend 6:30 o’clock and 11:00 o’clock newscasts.
The other night on my way home from my current position, I was thinking about how balancing work and Max is a lot like working in news.
From the “top”-picking Max up at daycare.

Good evening and thank you for joining us. Tonight we begin with a report on how Max did at daycare today. He ate his entire waffle for breakfast, but shunned half of his banana. There was better success during lunch when he consumed an entire peanut butter and jelly sandwich and applesauce.
Onlookers reported that he maintained a steady crawl; however, his attempts to stand ended in frustration, and he was seen pulling another baby’s hair. It is not known what happened to his teething ring as it disappeared suddenly; however, the search will continue into the morning hours. He had three wet diapers and two BM’s, but it is uncertain if more will come.
Blood- curdling screams were heard around 5:35pm as Max was buckled into his car seat. Reports indicate that he didn’t like to be buckled in and would rather stand. The melee soon ended when Max was calmed by a blue fluffy bunny.
After a car ride induced nap, Max suddenly showed signs of happiness; however, mixed emotions flooded his face when he was placed on the floor. Rebellion soon broke out against a large
plastic dinosaur, and Max made his way into the kitchen.
Interrupting the dinner rush, and causing a road block, Max latched onto exposed ankles almost causing a trip and fall. Clean-up crews arrived on the scene instantly with a satisfying concoction of macaroni and cheese.
In weather tonight, we had a calm, hot sunny day; however, a down pour of rain hit the area during Max’s bath. Splashes and gleeful laughter caused small tidal-waves, but soon subsided.
In sports, with two laps remaining around the neighborhood, Max took the lead in his stroller, but upset hit the track when he was pitted for two tires. Recovering from the time loss quickly, he pushed for the checkered flag, and came in first.
And finally tonight, a beautiful boy was lulled to sleep by a bedtime story. Wrapped in his favorite monkey blanket that Aunt Beth bought for him, he slowly drifted into a peaceful rest.
Thank you for joining us tonight. Be sure to tune in next week for another adventure in the Balancing Act with Max!
