Mother, Daughter Workouts

Mother, Daughter Workouts

My daughter loves to come into the gym with me when I workout. She always wants to try to do what I do so I make sure to set aside time where we can ‘workout’ together. I love that she is into exercising so I choose moves that are easy and that don’t require any dumbbells or machines, just our bodies!

Working out with your children is great in so many ways; it keeps them healthy, it teaches them that fitness is important and it’s another way for you to spend quality time together.

Indoor Moves

1. Hindu Squats – a nice way to warm up – you need to focus, go slow and breathe

2. Partner Squats – a move you can do as a team

3. Bosu Bounce – shake it up! Reece likes to jump so I hold her hands and help her keep her balance while she squeals and jumps!

4. Bosu Lunge – this is something we can do side by side so it’s fun for her (you can do it by just standing on the ground as well if you don’t have a Bosu)

5. Modified Pushups (on knees) makes her feel like she is really working out – we just do a couple

6. Leg lifts, things that require your body to balance – it’s fun and challenging for her

7. Tumbling gymnastics moves - On a soft mat – she loves to roll

8. Stretching – she leads because she is more flexible and it gives her the sense she is helping Mommy

Other Moves
*Occasionally if she really wants to use dumbbells because she sees ‘Mommy’ using them I let her use 2lb dumbbells to do bicep curls, just 2-3 reps / meant to be fun

*I let her use the stability ball only when I am able to assist and tell her to be very careful – again, she can only use it when Mommy is around

Trampoline Moves
If you have a trampoline and your kids say “Jump with me, jump with me, bounce me” like mine do all the time, this is a great workout for you both (Also an opportunity for them to lead and participate)

Knee Lifts (jump on 1 foot and bring opposite to your chest
Jump and scissor legs
Bounce Them – jump hard so they go high
Butt Drop - Jump and Sit – this is not easy to do

Extra Tips
Turn on some music
Take turns suggesting a move
Don’t demand they do a certain number
If they want to stop, stop

Remember fun, fun, fun!
