HM Book Review: Faithful Place

Tami Jones

In 1985 Francis Mackey and Rose Daly were young and in love. They wanted nothing more than to leave Faithful Place, their Dublin home, get married and start a new life in England. Train tickets were purchased, bags were packed and all that was left was for them to meet in their designated spot. Unfortunately Rosie never showed, but Frank still wanted out so he left only to return 22 years later to solve the mystery of Rose Daly’s disappearance.

Faithful PlaceTana French has done a wonderful job writing the mystery “Faithful Place” and making you feel as if you are there.  I could put myself in Frank’s shoes while he was waiting in the cold to start his new life with his ladylove and feel his heartbreak when she didn’t show.  The author did a wonderful job going from the past to the present and definitely kept me on my toes while reading. At one point I thought I had solved the mystery only to have a curveball thrown at me.  The hardest thing about reading this story was the Irish dialect used throughout. Once I got used to it I could read the story with ease

“Faithful Place” gets 5 out of 5 stars from this reader, and I would definitely recommend it to anyone that loves a good mystery.  I normally read books in the true crime genre but would pick up another book by Tana French in a heartbeat.  She kept my attention throughout the whole story making it very hard to put the book down once I began.  So if you are looking for an escape to a different place with a good mystery, pick up “Faithful Place” and I guarantee you won’t be sorry.
