Tell us about your company:
Smart Cover was created by Flori and Nancy Roberts, pioneers in corrective cosmetics. They realized that everyone has something to hide, be it serious or small and set out to answer this need. They called it Smart Cover because it brilliantly hides skin flaws from dark eye circles and birthmarks to age spots and varicose veins...even tattoos! The waterproof formula is recommended by Dermatologists.
My a-ha moment (when I knew I had a real idea):
Flori: I had serious skin cancer on my nose and was noticeably scarred from surgery. I found that ordinary make-up didn't work and other make-up looked like a mask, so I developed a product for myself that hid my scars and every other imperfection including my varicose veins and still looked natural. That was the moment I knew we had something that could revolutionize Cover Cosmetics.
How do you work your schedule to get a little flexibility?
Nancy: The beauty of an on-line business is that the internet never sleeps! Fortunately, I can pick the hours that I want to work. I am able to work during the day when my children are at school and then burn the midnight oil when they are asleep!
Can you offer any tips to other moms out there regarding growing a business or encouraging words for those with a small business?
Flori: I raised a successful business and two terrific sons by always remembering to prioritize. I had to live by my Roberts Rules of Entrepreneurship and to make sure my kids and my husband always knew they came first!
I wake up in the middle of the night thinking about:
Nancy: I wake up thinking of new ways to promote Smart Cover in this difficult economy, how to increase sales, and whether my son finished his homework.
Best thing about being a parent:
Flori: Being a Grandma!
Nancy: Everything!
Best thing about owning my own business:
Nancy and Flori: The best part is the exhilaration of starting small and dreaming big by making your original idea into a reality. More flexibility and control over your life and you never get fired!

Nancy: Massage all 90 minutes of it with my cell phone in the other room!
