Name: Beth Maupin
Email Address: bmm78@mtco.com
Family: Yes
Do you own a business?: Yes
Please tell us more about the business and when you started it (or would like to start it):
I am a licensed in-home daycare provider. I have been licensed for 3 years and I watch anywhere from 5 to 7 other children besides my own three in my home 5 days a week.
How many children do you have?: 3
How would you define yourself as a hybrid mom?:
I think I am a hybrid mom because I cannot stand being lazy or bored. Mostly because I don't have time for it! It isn't very often that I just sit and veg out in front of the television. There is always always always something that needs to be done in my house (whether or not my kids agree with me!)
Share one personal or business ambition:
I have always had a secret dream to become a writer. I have handfuls of notebooks filled with poetry, short stories and journal entries that I've kept for more than 15 years. I have only recently begun sharing some of my writing with a few close friends and the support and feedback they have given me has been amazing!
What is your favorite thing about being a mom?:
I would have to admit that I LOVE being the hero to my kids for anything from yucky bugs to scary monsters to just needing someone to hug for any reason at all.
What one belief, factor or trait would you say has contributed most to your success (either personally or professionally)?:
Patience Patience Patience!!!!!!! Taking care of other people's children require so much patience, I wasn't sure if I actually had it in me when I decided to take on this career, but I've had so much positive feedback from parents that I believe I really do have what it takes!
Feel free to tell us anything else you'd like... :
I'm a country girl! Raised on a farm and married to a part time farmer (he only farms with his family - he has a full time job, too) our kids are full blown country kids! I'm a pretty blunt person and try not to take things too personally or seriously. I have a great sense of humor, love to laugh and can appreciate my own humility. I would love to be a voice for other daycare providers out there who want to tell parents what they really think about things - like seriously - stop sending your daughter to my daycare in such fancy clothes!! It's SO hard to keep her clean and stain free and worry about what you will say when you pick her up and find that she's decided to play with the tractors in the dirt pile today! And really? He stops crying 30 seconds after you walk out the door...so instead of picking him back up 6 times when he clings to your leg - just GO! It's just a thought!
